The Alpina Mountain Resort and Spa has been recognized as a leader in its field in 2025 by one of Europe’s most prestigious and long-established rating systems, the Karl Wild Hotel Rating.

The Alpina has been ranked 22nd among Switzerland’s top 150 hotels where it was singled out in the ‘Nice Price Hotels’ category and received a positive endorsement as a ‘Wellness Hotel’.

“We’re very pleased with our placement in this renowned ranking,” said The Alpina’s Marco Theus. “It’s a wonderful confirmation of our daily commitment and our philosophy of offering our guests genuine hospitality and a unique alpine experience.”

The Alpina, perched atop one of Switzerland’s prettiest villages, has previously been described by Britain’s The Telegraph as a “ski-in, ski-out, design led retreat with meditative appeal” where it was rated a 9/10 by the paper’s experts.

Reopened in 2015 after an extensive restoration to reenergize its near 130-year history, The Alpina focuses on a sustainable tourism model. An iconic destination to this day, it offers guests 27 rooms and suites, two restaurants in Restaurant La Belle Epoque and the Panorama Restaurant as well as a bar all trimmed to transport guests back to the Golden Twenties.

It’s award-winning Shan Spa offered tailored treatments that are themed to the region. Enjoying incomparable views of the Graubunden Mountains, Shan Spa offers a Finnish sauna, steam bath, Biosauna, Infrared cabin, Kneipp area, Via Mala thunder path and outdoor whirl pool, a relaxation room and two therapy rooms for treatments.

The Karl Wild Hotel Rating has been Switzerland’s authoritative hotel rating for almost 30 years. In 2025, the team of independent assessors was led by Andrin Willi, a trained hotelier, former editor-in-chief of trade magazines including Salz & Pfeffer, Vinum and Marmite, and a recognized industry presenter, author and commentator.

In explaining this year’s ratings, Willi said: “The rating now recognizes not the 100 best hotels in Switzerland, but the 150 best, because we're not just interested in five-star establishments. 110 of the 150 hotels are holiday hotels of all categories (five-star, four-star, Nice Price, and family holiday hotels). This means that this year we have separated the category of the best four-star holiday hotels from the best Nice Price holiday hotels, which are classified in the three-star range.

“Our rating is based on the rating of the industry association HotellerieSuisse. This rating is an integral part of our assessment; together with guest impressions, it accounts for over a third of the maximum number of points awarded.”
